The Best All-Flash Platform : Nutanix Frame

Nutanix Frame is a cloud-hosted DaaS (Desktop as a Service) solution that enables any organization to deliver and manage their desktops through a single console for seamless control and administration, resulting in a true hybrid experience.

End users can link to Nutanix Xi frames from any computer, including a laptop, tablet, or smartphone, using any web browser. End users can link to Nutanix Xi frames using any web browser and a single URL from anywhere on the planet, including Mars, if you get there ( making fun).

This is the time of the Coronavirus pandemic, and the world is experiencing its worst economic downturn ever. Organizations are looking for a solution that can provide enterprise-class desktop services at a low cost and with a short implementation period. As a result, their workers are able to operate from any location and at any time. Finally, the Nutanix Xi frame will provide the same service at a lower cost.

What distinguishes Nutanix Xi Frame from Amazon, Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware's DaaS offerings? Nutanix Xi Frame empowers you with options, reduces complexity, and simplifies EUC. The following is a list of main features:

  • Multi-cloud and hybrid cloud support for workload VMs on-premises and in public clouds (Nutanix AHV, AWS, Azure, and GCP).
  • Virtual desktops and applications powered by CPU, NVIDIA vGPU, and multi-GPU
  • Modern (SAML/Oauth) and traditional (AD) authentication
  • User-friendly interfaces and APIs that are well-documented
  • Windows and Linux guest operating systems
  • Built-in enterprise user accounts, GPO/GPP, or 3rd party UEM tools Persistent (personal) and non-persistent (pooled) desktops
  • Native integration with OneDrive, Box, DropBox, and Google Drive

"We live in a world where everyone is working together and competing at the same time. 'This is the new standard,' says the narrator. It is beneficial to strike a balance between competition and collaboration. It keeps Nutanix on the cutting edge and enables us to provide value to our customers now and in the future.

We can see in this blog that there are four main key factors that distinguish Xi Frame from other DaaS solutions:

  • Simplicity
  • Born in the cloud
  • Support for Multi-Cloud and Hybrid Cloud
  • Scalability

Simplicity

Since all DaaS vendors tout their solutions as simple and easy to use, it's critical to know what a solution can actually deliver for your business. It takes art to design and deliver a truly competitive cloud service that meets the needs of end-users, administrators, and developers. This is an art that Xi Frame has mastered. Partners and customers regularly give us positive reviews. Our mission has always been to provide a straightforward, distinct experience.

Frame is simple to use and has a lot of features that give both the administrator and the end-user a pleasant experience. Even in a dynamic hybrid cloud, multi-region configuration, the software is simple to set up and run. The user interface is well-designed and sensitive, making even the most difficult tasks easy.

Cloud storage, identity/access management, corporate user accounts, networking solutions, and more are all available as one-click integrations in Xi Frame. The Super Admin GUI in Xi Frame lets you control multiple Frame tenants across multiple regions and infrastructure platforms like Nutanix AHV, Azure, AWS, and GCP. The skills of a Super Admin include: Account settings, cloning systems, analytics, metering, and much more are all available.

Xi Frame comes with APIs that make it simple to Support CI/CD. The platform's powerful, well-documented Admin API makes it simple to automate and configure it for developer needs. Integrate applications or desktops with existing interfaces. The Session API in Frame makes it simple to integrate with Google Shelf, Office 365 Application Launcher, or any other HTML5 interface.

The best way to grasp the simplicity of Xi Frame is to try it out; I explain how at the end of this blog.

Born in the Cloud

One of the things that contribute to Xi Frame's uniqueness and simplicity is that it was designed from the ground up for the cloud age. We did not try to lift and shift EUC/VDI technology that was designed and built for on-premises deployments to the cloud.

We use cloud-native technologies and cloud services to ensure that the platform is highly available, scalable, secure by design, and cost-effective. You can start small (5 users) and scale up as your business grows. Named-user or concurrent-user subscriptions are available with monthly, annual, or multi-year contracts. Flexible usage accommodates seasonality and adapts to your most demanding requirements.

Fast integration with a wide range of IDaaS providers (Google, Microsoft Azure AD, Okta, or any other SAML2 IdP) as well as Classic Active Directory is included in the security package. End-to-end encryption safeguards sensitive information and guarantees anonymity, while role-based access control (RBAC) fortifies the organization's defences against malicious actors.

GDPR, HIPAA, and ISO are only a few of the regulations and security requirements that Xi Frame complies with. FedRAMP compliance is currently being worked on. Xi Frame supports AWS GovCloud and Azure Government for US government organizations that handle sensitive, highly controlled data.

Support for Multi-Cloud and Hybrid Cloud

The fact that most DaaS solutions bind you to a single public cloud is a significant disadvantage. Xi Frame enables the deployment of virtual apps and desktops in major public clouds such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. On Nutanix's on-premises infrastructure, Frame can also run virtual applications and desktops.

In previous blogs, I mentioned that a hybrid approach—a control plane in the cloud and the ability to run virtual applications or desktops on public cloud and/or on-premises infrastructure—is an ideal solution for many organizations. It removes much of the management complexity, enables easy support for multiple sites, allows you to run applications close to the data, and reduces costs for optimal user experience. Xi Frame allows you to select the best infrastructure for each use case.

Scalability

Capacity Performance: Because AFAs are typically limited to two physical storage controllers, scaling capacity is constrained by the amount of RAM/NVMRAM available in a system. In most cases, adding SSDs does not improve performance.

At some point, the AFA customer will need to either upgrade to a larger unit with more processing power, add complex fabric interconnection, or begin creating silos. AFA manufacturers will claim that they can replace existing controllers with faster ones, but this, despite the disruption and expense, shifts the bottleneck to the network or, possibly, the existing flash medium.

In comparison, Nutanix, unlike AFAs, is not constrained by two physical storage controllers. The Controller Virtual Machine (CVM) on each node manages the VMs on that node. Every time a node is added to the cluster, a CVM is added as well, allowing for linear scaling of not only capacity but also performance and resiliency, as well as the expansion of management stack capabilities. Acropolis Block Services (ABS) and Acropolis File Services (AFS) allow Nutanix customers to scale physical and virtual workloads, as well as file serving, from the same Nutanix cluster, removing silo inefficiencies.

A positive user experience is critical. Users access their virtual applications and desktops through a browser with Xi Frame, eliminating the need to install and maintain client-side plugins, clients, receivers, or agents. To access virtual desktops and applications, all that is required is an HTML5-compliant browser. Each user receives a dedicated VM from Xi Frame. This ensures consistent, high-quality performance, removing the effects of "noisy neighbours."

Our own Frame Remoting Protocol (FRP) is a key component of delivering the user experience with Xi Frame, with highly performant, adaptive QoS capabilities and an adaptive codec that works well in LAN, mobile, and WAN environments. Our protocol's performance frequently astounds users.

A long list of features improves the user experience. For example, the FRP can provide high-end graphics with up to 60 frames per second, 4K and multi-monitor support, clipboard redirection, microphone support, the ability to print to client-connected printers, and HQ audio playback with audio and video in-sync.

You can give users access to a wide range of computing resources with Xi Frame, including burstable CPUs, multiple CPUs, and single or multiple GPUs (including NVIDIA vGPU). Many customers use GPU acceleration to run high-end applications at up to 60 frames per second.

The auto-scale functionality of Xi Frame provides the best performance at the lowest possible cost. Frame detects idle usage and automatically suspends the workload, eliminating the need for reserved instances and saving infrastructure costs.

Xi Frame also supports native cloud storage integration, with support for Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, and Box. Even more, functionality is on the way.

The Nutanix Xi frame has captured the hearts of many business leaders, converting them into Nutanix customers. There are many customers who use the Nutanix Xi frame DaaS service.
